While holidays are often religious or political in nature, now people make up holidays for any reason at all, and certainly it would be foolish to think gardening would not get its own holiday as well. Themed holidays are here to stay, and hobbyists have added them to cooking, painting and of course, now gardening is among the party.
It used to be that these theme based holidays would center around going to a garden and looking at grass and plants grow, but now these holidays are far more advanced and sophisticated. These events often offer private visits of gardens and even hands on experiences to those who want to.
In these smaller groups, you can often experience things that you could not in a holiday focused on large events with a lot of people. Even if you have a small garden, a few people can easily try out some of the routine tasks that you often have to do in this garden.
There are even tailor made cruises that go around various gardens with TV celebrities to explain what is going on and the type of work that these gardeners are doing. Sue Macdonald founded Boxwood Tour, one such tour company which offers to take people along a ride to visit gardens.
What she found is that people want less public visits, and instead they want private visits to gardens that are otherwise out of the public’s view. This along with people to give them key information ends up being big bucks for the organisers.
There are even workshops being made for people to learn what it means to be a gardener and attempt at the activity themselves. Some of these tours take as few as 10 people, and can fill up quickly. The best way to get on such a tour is to check early on in the year.
